On Monday Annapolis introduced a bill to increase income taxes on individuals who earn more than $100,000 and couples who earn more than $150,000 – even though the budget was already balanced. With unemployment still high and the economy stalled Annapolis is redefining wealth, while Maryland already has one of the highest combined local and state tax rates.
Raising income taxes in the Special Session will stall job growth, by driving businesses and citizens out of the state. As businesses leave, so do the jobs and the tax revenue Annapolis thought they would garner. They will not save this money, pay off debt or use it responsibly – they will simply spend more.
The largest tax hike in history is coming our way in January from the federal government. Our congressman made it happen – instead of focusing on jobs. Now he’d rather engage in partisan politics and finger pointing, raising money in Puerto Rico to campaign in New York.
It’s time this cycle ends. Annapolis must freeze spending and live within the balanced budget already passed. It’s time for Washington to do the same. It’s time for a new congressman – who represents us in DC, and will stop increasing taxes and irresponsible spending.

Americans know our economy is stagnant – the unemployment rate remains too high with more and more people losing hope on finding jobs. It’s time to end Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid’s economic policies and get the country back on track to job creation. It’s time to create good paying jobs, reduce energy prices, reduce our foreign trade deficit, and support economic expansion by advancing a reasonable national energy policy.
It’s time for a Congressman who supports the XL Pipeline on the House floor. The XL Pipeline is expected to add 20,000 jobs immediately and many hundreds of thousands of more jobs eventually to this failing economy. I agree with organized labor that this project should go forward now, not delayed “until after the election”. It is unfortunate Congressman Hoyer hesitated in his support of this venture. We must tap into our vast natural resources to create jobs, lessen our dependence on foreign oil, strengthen our national security and cut the trade deficit.
It’s time for a Congressman who supports the planned expansion for the Cove Point LNG plant right here that will create thousands of good paying jobs and economic expansion for Prince Georges County, Anne Arundel County and all of Southern Maryland. An average of 750 construction workers would be employed during 3+ years of construction, a majority of them good Union jobs. There will be between 2,700 and 3,400 jobs associated with the project in Calvert County alone at the peak of construction activity. These jobs will be filled by workers from all 5 counties in this congressional district. We could grow as many as 14,600 more jobs in several industries once gas exports begin.
It’s time we had a Congressman who is not afraid to lead and take on the challenges facing our citizens and country. Representative Hoyer no longer represents the economic interests of the citizens of Maryland’s 5th Congressional district. His “tax, tax, spend, spend” ways and policies have contributed to the terrible Unemployment Report today. We need a Congressman who will step up and fight for American workers and free enterprise, and work to facilitate job opportunities where all Americans can pursue their own American dream – it’s time.

Tony O’Donnell, Minority Leader of the Maryland House of Delegates and candidate for the US House of Representatives, joined thousands of other Marylanders to vote in the Primary Election.
O’Donnell remarked, ”How fitting is it that we are exercising our right to vote while we mark the 378th birthday of our wonderful state. We also pay our respects to those who have received Medals of Honor for their extraordinary service and sacrifice under arms. The great men and woman who founded Maryland and those who fought with the highest level of valor have given us this opportunity of freedom and personal liberty. Today, it is because of our founders and heroes that Marylanders are free to exercise their rights in choosing their parties candidates.”
Early voting for the Primary Election extends through Thursday, March 29, 2012. O’Donnell continued, “I encourage everyone to get out and vote. Exercise your freedom of choice now and in the general election. After all it is our right and responsibility to elect candidates who represent our values and principles. We get the government we choose…so choose wisely.”

March 12, 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts
Tony O’Donnell, Minority Leader of the Maryland House of Delegates and candidate for the US House of Representatives, wished the Girl Scouts of America a Happy 100th Birthday today. “Girl Scouts is a great organization,” said Delegate O’Donnell. “Volunteers lead the girls by helping them set life goals and instilling in them a sense of personal leadership. Girls gain a life bonding experience while learning about their own communities and the ones throughout the world. Through the awards and badge programs the girls build their skill set to succeed in the changing world environments.”
The Girl Scouts of America is an outstanding organization helping young girls to reach their full potential. According to Girl Scouts of America:
In 1912, Juliette Gordon Low brought 18 girls together for the first Girl Scout meeting. Now, 100 years later, 59 million Americans – nearly half of all US women – remember the fun and friendship of Girl Scouting.
O’Donnell noted former Girl Scouts include Elizabeth Dole, former American Red Cross President; Pam Fields, Mrs. Fields Cookies founder; Christa McAuliffe, teacher and Astronaut; Nancy Reagan, wife of Ronald Reagan (40th President); Lt Colonel Eileen Collins, first woman Space Shuttle Commander; Sheila Widnall, US Secretary of the Air Force (retired); Shirley Temple Black, Actress and US Ambassador; and Sandra Day O’Connor, Associate Justice, US Supreme Court.
O’Donnell continued, “In the Year of the Girl and National Women’s History Month it is an honor to recognize Girl Scouts as a great institution. Congratulations Girl Scouts on your 100th Anniversary.”

Tony O’Donnell, candidate for Maryland’s 5th Congressional District seat in the US House of Representatives and the Republican Leader of the Maryland House of Delegates, is calling on Marylanders who value the sanctity of marriage to support a petition placing this critical issue on the November ballot so that Marylanders can decide for themselves.
House Bill 438 was signed yesterday by Governor Martin O’Malley, a strong supporter of gay marriage. It changes the definition of marriage from between a man and a woman to between two individuals who are not otherwise prohibited from marrying thus legalizing same-sex marriage.
O’Donnell remarked, ” I think this is a sad day for Maryland. I have talked to dozens of very concerned citizens and members of the clergy from various faiths who believe it is morally wrong to change the definition of marriage. I agree with them and that is why I fully support the petition effort to allow the people of Maryland to vote for or against the gay marriage law on the ballot in November.”
O’Donnell, who helped lead the fight against the gay marriage bill in the House of Delegates, said his congressional campaign would spearhead a bipartisan drive for signatures in Congressional District 5 (Prince George’s, Charles, Anne Arundel, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties). O’Donnell said his opponent, 31 year congressional incumbent Steny Hoyer “represents an elitist view that disregards his constituent’s values. I will respect and represent those values.”
O’Donnell noted that Hoyer’s Senior Advisor, State Delegate John Bohanan, voted in favor of the gay marriage bill. He also pointed to Hoyer’s support for repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and Hoyer’s support for the repeal of “Don’t ask; Don’t tell” as it applied to the military. “Hoyer is totally on board with the gay agenda,” said O’Donnell. ”He is going to learn that Maryland is not Hollywood.”
Defenders of traditional marriage can get additional information on the petition drive at MDPetitions.com.
