Last fall during the debt crisis, the President signed a deal that if it failed, would trigger cuts in defense so large even he called them unsustainable. On January 5th, he proposed those cuts as part of his budget plan.
Rep. Hoyer said cuts of that size threatened our national security. Now he thinks it’s a great idea. Has he tried to defend national security spending? No. Has he argued against President Obama’s precipitous slashing of the Defense budget? No. Has he offered alternative cuts to protect defense? No. Press release? No. Floor Statement? No. Speech? No. Op-Ed? No.
Rep. Hoyer has remained utterly silent on defense cuts that he previously said threatened our national security. Rep. Hoyer obviously cares about defense only when it suits him – only when it suits his Party.
Maryland deserves better. We deserve a representative who will make National Security a priority not a photo op – “to provide for the common defense” as our forefathers intended. Maryland deserves Tony O’Donnell.
