The State of the Union Address misses the mark when it comes to helping Maryland families.

First, we should be creating good paying jobs for Americans by developing our own energy resources. That is why it is such a terrible mistake to not build the Keystone Pipeline. That would create about 20,000 jobs and allow us to get more energy from Canada, a friendly neighbor.  It is a continuing threat to our national security to rely so heavily on foreign suppliers half way around the world

I am not opposed to alternative energy sources but the President’s allies in Congress need to get realistic about the potential for green jobs. Maryland families are hurting while my opponent makes nice with special interest groups who are out of touch with what it takes to raise family in Southern Maryland, Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties.

The flow of credit, which is essential for job creation, has been choked off by excessive regulation. Small business needs credit to create good paying jobs for families.  My opponent, Steny Hoyer has not learned from the more than $1 trillion wasted on two failed stimulus programs in 2009 that he supported.  Economic growth in the private sector, not throwing away tax dollars on pipedreams, like Solyndra, is what America needs to produce the jobs families deserve.

I will never engage in the type of class warfare now being encouraged by some in Congress. You do not produce economic growth and create jobs for families by taking money from the very people who invest in companies, expand factories and fund start ups and giving that money to the government in the form of taxes.

We cannot change the way Congress behaves unless and until we change the people Congress.
